Production In Action Day 2

Today was the second day of set-up for the production in action. We hung all the lights, finished setting up the projection mapping back drop, and set-up all the sound equipment. Everything is going to plan.

Willow Creek Community Church

Had the chance to tour the Willow Creek Community Church today with my Live Sound Design Class. Willow Creek, in its main auditorium, has 7200 seats, all digital front of house and monitor consoles, a large Meyer loudspeaker arrays and fills systems, and it has the largest theater stage in the country, which is the actual stage and behind the stage. The entire campus contains around 150 different wireless signals, from microphones and in-ear monitors, going at the same time. Their is also a second auditorium, which was the original when Willow Creek was first built, that holds a couple thousand occupants. That is used for youth events and things of that nature. There is also an atrium with multiple projects and a single line array. In the basement facilities, there are two small rooms with stages and digital consoles. Also in the basement is the video feed HQ for the huge LED HD monitors on either side of the stage and for monitors spread across the campus. Right next to the video feed HQ is a small recording studio. Something interesting about this studio is that the band Delirious recorded a live album here at Willow Creek, which was tracked out to ProTools in that studio, while they were being filmed playing on stage. All in all, a great place, great sounding room, world renowned sound system, massive stage, and great engineers controlling it all.
